Who We Are

The Coalition for More Homes is a group of citizens and organisations calling on Auckland Council to enable More Homes in the Right Places, and Density Done Well. We want to see greater housing quality & choice, liveable local neighbourhoods and centres that support residents of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland now and into the future. This is crucial to respond to the housing and climate crisis.

The Coalition for More Homes was brought together in 2016, asking Auckland Council to pass the Auckland Unitary Plan. The Coalition was reignited in 2021, to advocate for the implementation of the National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPS-UD) in Auckland and, later, the Medium Density Residential Standards (MDRS) through the Resource Management (Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2021. These legislation present a significant opportunity to increase the supply of homes in Auckland, especially close to local centres and transport that offer greater access to amenities and employment.

The Coalition for More Homes is a non-partisan group stretching across the political spectrum, including community housing providers, advocacy and special interest groups, trade unions, think tanks, consultants and private developers.
